Anna Kendrick has earned a significant fan base from her roles in the musical film Pitch Perfect, the cult-favorite Twilight series, Up in the Air opposite George Clooney, and most recently as the host of this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live. The Academy Award-nominated actress’ over two million Twitter followers may be familiar with her funny antics, but they may not know that the star also loves to give back.
Last month, Kendrick helped kick off Burt’s Bees’ Hive with Heart campaign. With each qualifying Burt’s Bees purchase through June 30, the brand will donate two lip products to Lipstick Angels, a nonprofit that empowers hospitalized women by treating them to beauty sessions. We sat down with Kendrick to talk philanthropy, upcoming movies, and who she finds funny on Twitter.
What do you love about Burt’s Bees?
ANNA KENDRICK: One of my favorite products that I honestly never leave home without is the tinted lip balm. The sweet violet is my favorite. I love that [Burt’s Bees] is all-natural and I love that it’s accessible—you can get it anywhere. They’re just a really responsible company.What made you want to get involved in the Hive with Heart Campaign?
AK: This is just such a sweet idea. Just thinking [about it] makes me smile. It’s so simple but it’s so powerful. These women who volunteer their time to bring beauty treatments to women who are hospitalized—it’s just such a beautiful thing.
Burt’s Bees is a very sustainable brand. How do you live green?
AK: I probably should a bit more. I think that’s what’s so nice about [Burt’s Bees]: it’s such an easy choice to make. It’s in the same stores where you get everything. When it’s accessible and it’s affordable, it’s such a simple choice to make.What other projects are you working on right now?
AK: Happy Christmas is going to come out this summer, as weird as that is. And then Into the Woods is going to come out on Christmas. I’m really, really excited about both of those. And then in a month or so I’m going to start rehearsing for Pitch Perfect 2.Kendrick got laughs on this weekend’s episode of SNL (with Bobby Moynihan and Jay Pharoah).
We love reading your tweets—you’re hilarious. Who are your favorite people on Twitter?
AK: I think Chelsea Peretti is really funny on Twitter and she’s really funny on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I love her kind of Twitter persona, which is a completely insane person. I’m sort of really envious of her Twitter persona. Obviously, Rob Delaney is really funny. Kay Cannon has a really funny Twitter—she writes Pitch Perfect.Any favorite LA hangouts?
AK: I finally went to LACMA—I’m doing touristy stuff in LA. The Diane von Furstenberg exhibit was really, really cool. It’s set up so beautifully, it’s so visually intense.
